GRPS School Choice Expo & Family Winter Carnival Moved to January 22

Due to inclement weather, the Grand Rapids Public Schools’ annual School Choice Expo and Family Winter Carnival is rescheduled for Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at City High Middle School. It is a free, family friendly event offering GRPS students, their families, and prospective families the opportunity to learn about school choices while enjoying a fun winter celebration. Children’s activities include bounce house, winter themed games and activities, and prizes. Free dinner is also provided.

Ottawa Hills High School welcomes the public to another exciting day of basketball with the Annual Floyd Mayweather Basketball Classic on Saturday, January 19, 2019. This event serves as a major fundraiser for the Ottawa Hills boys’ basketball program.

Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy Received System Impact Grant

The Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) announced today that Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy received a $20,000 Reach Higher System Impact grant to enhance college and career readiness. The school will focus on two strategies: 1) providing all students an opportunity to receive college credit in high school through AP courses and dual enrollment courses and 2) assisting with academic strategies to avoid remedial classes at the college level.

Grand Rapids High School Senior Wins Top Prize in Consumers Energy Sponsored Student Art Competition

A Grand Rapids senior’s artwork depicting a better future with more renewable energy has earned a $1,000 college scholarship and prominent display of her winning creation in downtown Grand Rapids as ArtPrize 10 heads into its final week.

Jenna Sherwin’s piece, “Light Up the World,” was chosen by three professional judges as the top winner of the sixth annual SmartArt competition among Grand Rapids Public Schools’ high school students, sponsored by Consumers Energy.

Grand Rapids Teens Advance Conversations on Relevant Issues through ArtPrize 10

Twenty-three teen students from Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) who participate in the nationally-recognized teen arts + tech program through the West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT) have found a platform in ArtPrize 10 to share their powerful art and voices. Various art mediums were engaged by WMCAT students; each one accompanied by a message that allows ArtPrize attendees to experience issues that matter to teens in Grand Rapids.
