Whitecaps Community Foundation to Donate 5,000 Books

The Whitecaps Community Foundation is celebrating “March is Reading Month” in a big way this year, by donating 5,000 books to local Grand Rapids elementary schools.  The book donations will benefit the students of 15 Grand Rapids Public Schools recommended for the program based on their needs and their potential for impacting as large a student group as possible.

Heart of West Michigan United Way & GRPS Partner Provide STEM Curriculum to Middle School Students

WHAT:           Thanks to the support of Heart of West Michigan United Way, Grand Rapids Public Schools is investing in a new, comprehensive science curriculum PK- 12.  United Way funding specially went to the middle school portion with emphasis on improving student outcomes on state assessments.  Media will have the opportunity to meet with the organizations’ leaders, Westwood Middle School Principal, science teachers and students to see how the curriculum is being used in the classrooms.

Letter on GRPS School Safety

As you know, a tragic incident occurred at a high school in Broward County, Florida yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the students, parents, staff, and the entire Broward County community. 

Any time there is a tragic incident like this, it is good to reflect on all the training, technology, policies, procedures, and facility-related measures that our district has in place to ensure safe and secure school environments.
