Twenty-three teen students from Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) who participate in the nationally-recognized teen arts + tech program through the West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT) have found a platform in ArtPrize 10 to share their powerful art and voices. Various art mediums were engaged by WMCAT students; each one accompanied by a message that allows ArtPrize attendees to experience issues that matter to teens in Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids Public Schools has been a part of my life for more than 55 years, beginning as a student and now ending as the superintendent. It has truly been a remarkable story that I could not have imagined when I stepped into the kindergarten classroom at Madison Park Elementary in 1963. However, as a bookend to my time with GRPS, effective June 30, 2019, I will be retiring as your Superintendent of Schools.
Kent District Library and Schuler Books & Music announce the seventh annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest, which drew nearly 900 Michigan writers last year.
Writers of all ages are invited to enter, with separate categories for youth, teens, adults and Spanish language. Winning entries will be published and receive cash prizes.

Eighth graders from the Grand Rapids Public Museum Middle School will be hosting Student Docent Days throughout the 2018/2019 school year at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. As part of their Place Based Design class, students will choose an artifact from the Museum’s Collections and through their classwork and research, will design a story to guide Museum visitors to a deeper understanding of their chosen artifact and how it relates to existing exhibits.
