Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent announced today that she and the entire district would be participating in the National School Walk Out on March 14, 2018 at 10:00 am.
WHAT: Thanks to the support of Heart of West Michigan United Way, Grand Rapids Public Schools is investing in a new, comprehensive science curriculum PK- 12. United Way funding specially went to the middle school portion with emphasis on improving student outcomes on state assessments. Media will have the opportunity to meet with the organizations’ leaders, Westwood Middle School Principal, science teachers and students to see how the curriculum is being used in the classrooms.
As you know, a tragic incident occurred at a high school in Broward County, Florida yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the students, parents, staff, and the entire Broward County community.
Any time there is a tragic incident like this, it is good to reflect on all the training, technology, policies, procedures, and facility-related measures that our district has in place to ensure safe and secure school environments.
The Grand Rapids Board of Education is in the process of conducting its annual evaluation of the Superintendent. As part of that process, the Board is surveying GRPS employees, parents and community members. The result of this survey will be an important part of the Superintendent’s evaluation.
The Poetry Out Loud Competition is about studying and developing deep understanding of poetry, and delivering it to an audience effectively. It gives students an appreciation for the art of poetry while advancing reading fluency and comprehension. Grand Rapids Innovation Central High School and Montessori High School will each be sending a student to the Poetry Out Loud State Competition on March 1st and 2nd.
