GRPS Announces Winners of Back to School Jingle Writing Contest

As students in Grand Rapids Public Schools are scheduled to go back to school before Labor Day, the district reached out to its talented students to create a jingle to help spread the word.

As students in Grand Rapids Public Schools are scheduled to go back to school before Labor Day, the district reached out to its talented students to create a jingle to help spread the word.

The winning jingle was submitted by Emily Jespersen and Nora Milanowski, who are both 2nd graders at CA Frost. Cierra Barrera, an 11th grader, and Alicia Pittman, a 9th grader, came in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. Barrera and Pittman both attend Innovation Central.

The contest was open to all GRPS students. Students were invited to submit an original thirty second song that includes the phrase “don’t be late on August 28”. Entries were judged by the district’s fine arts department.

The top 6 entries were posted to YouTube and shared on Facebook. The public was invited to vote for their favorite by “liking” the entry on Facebook or giving it a “thumbs up” on YouTube. First and second place were separated by a mere 44 votes.

The top 3 vote getters won fun prizes, including a trip to the WSNX studio to meet Mike from 104.5, amusement park tickets for the top 2, and the winning song will be played on the radio.
