The Grand Rapids City Clerk’s Office is extending its office hours to provide passport services to customers.  The Office will open from 8 a.m. to Noon on Saturdays, Feb. 11, 18, 25 and March 4, 11 and 18. In addition, the Office will stay open late on Tuesday evenings Feb. 14 and 21.

City Clerk Darlene O’Neal said that a recent January Passport Outreach Event was such a great success, it became clear that the Clerk’s Office should provide additional weekend and evening opportunities for applicants to apply for a passport.

“The City recognizes the challenge of busy work days and coordinating family schedules, and this seems to be the right thing to do for members of our community looking to prepare for the upcoming travel season,” she said.

O’Neal said applicants could expedite the process by preparing for their office visit by first going the Clerk’s passport webpage (grcity.us/passports) or travel.state.gov.  Visitors to either site will find information on how to apply or renew, fee schedule, required documentation, and the rules and regulations for applying.

Applicants must have two personal checks, two money orders or cash in the exact amount of the passport and processing fees when applying. If paying with cash, a $1 fee will be charged to convert the passport fee into a check to be sent with the application to the US Department of State. The Clerk’s Office cannot accept credit or debit card payments during the extended hours.

Clerk’s office employees will take passport photos for those in need of a passport portrait for a nominal fee.

Please note the City Clerk’s Office does not process Passport Renewal Requests, but can provide the appropriate forms. Applicants do not have to be residents of the City of Grand Rapids.  The Tuesday evening extended hours require an appointment; however, no appointments are necessary for the Saturday extended hours.
